type='text'>Effective Powerpoints

In my experience powerpoints can be a very effective tool for presentations, and teaching, but sometimes they fall a little short and do not really contribute to the ultimate goal of engaging the audience. I find myself losing interest in powerpoint presentations that have an overwhelming amount of text on them, and do not contain many interesting pictures. As a teaching tool, I often times become frustrated with powerpoints that are too simple. For example, ones with key words and they teacher dictates the definition; it would be more helpful for the teacher to include at least an abbreviated version of the definition on the slide.

Hannah

Chris Nolan's Presentation

I found Chris Nolan's presentation very interesting. In the United States a similar legal route may have been followed in a case like hers. Despite the fact that a photograph, essay, film, animation, or sound bite can be found for "free" use on the internet does not mean you are allowed to reproduce it without the proper notification of the owner or the proper citation. If you fail to do so, then you are infringing upon the owner's rights.

If the publishers had held themselves accountable, or used the proper citation then no monetary reimbursement would have been necessary; but when they were not accommodating and showed no interest in properly citing her photograph, forcing her to pursue legal help--monetary reimbursement is the proper punishment and reward for both the defendant and the prosecutor.

Hannah

Effective Powerpoint Presentations

Being a full-time student since the age of four, I have seen and made many a powerpoint presentation. In my own assignments I try to make colorful yet organized powerpoints incorporating pictures, different fonts, graphics, and clipart, but I have found many of my teachers use a different approach. In my Principles of Psychology class my professor uses very bland black and white slides with only keywords of information. While it's very pragmatic, and probably most effecient to make, I find it pretty boring to pay attention to. My eighth and ninth grade biology teacher also used powerpoints as a teaching tool, but his were much more colorful, and incorporated lots of pretty pictures--which I personally prefer.

cordially,

Hannah

My Experience with Microsoft Office

From about fifth grade onward using the computer and Microsoft Word became a part of many of my daily assignments. I've found that Microsoft Word is not that hard to navigate around, and I can--for the most part--achieve whatever formatting I need for a particular assignment. Often times though, I find myself getting frustrated with the specifics. For example, indentions, margins, and numbering. Things of this nature are already programmed into the software, and I have a hard time altering what Microsoft Word THINKS I want, but in reality, do not. I am hoping that come this Spring I will have mastered the small things that sometimes give me the most frustration.

Hannah

My Computer Experience

For the most part I feel like I can operate a computer fairly well. I know how to use it for all the things I really need my computer to do (i.e. internet, paper writing, music, photos, and email). In 8th grade I took a typing class, but By now that information will be outdated because it was on Word 2003. At home we only had PCs, but when I was researching what laptop to get to go to school, I found that Macs are more suitable for my computer use. My MacBook Pro--just like any other Mac-- is very user friendly, I really don't see myself switching back to using a PC anytime soon. I hope this class teaches me to be even more computer literate.

Cordially,

Hannah

Introduction

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v18.nonxt7.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D1140127f58438f36%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1330178553%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D3AB97A1B228A80D3CBCE03B676FFA0D8CF1B03A9.309F06B5C2AAB3A39E31B890E485FC8366F11899%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D1140127f58438f36%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D_0ow9HTjnvxJlGmMNPa1aAskPog&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Hi.
My Name is Hannah Katherine Harms, and, like I mentioned in my very flattering video, I am from Birmingham, Alabama. In coming to Texas I left behind my Mama, my little sister Emma, and my weimaraner, Sophie.
At this point I think I want to be an International Business Major and minor in Art History. I might do something with English too. I would love to do something like open an art gallery over seas, or work at an auction house like Sotheby's. More pragmatically though, I'm interested in doing something in finance with AXA in France. But I guess a lot could change in the next three years.

Lots of people ask me how I ended up in San Antonio. I heard about it from my college counselor in high school and in all honesty I didn't think I would come here; I knew I didn't want to go in state to school, and the sixteen hours back to home aren't so bad. Also I love my roommate Laura.

Cordially,
Hannah
